Cormorant East field plan gets thumbs up

Thumbs up: Taqa has received approval for its field development plan at Cormorant East

United Arab Emirates-based Taqa has received approval for the field development plan for the Cormorant East field in the UK Northern North Sea Block 211/22a.

Taqa made the Cormorant East discovery last month when the 211/21-N94 well intersected oil-bearing sandstones in the Tarbert formation of the Jurassic Brent group within the then named Contender prospect.

The approved field development plan will see the field be initially produced under primary depletion, with the potential to install a water injection scheme at a later date.

Field partner Antrim Energy said completion and tie-in of the Contender well was underway, with first oil expected before the end of the year.
