Kazakhs get tough on TCO sulphur

By Upstream staff

Kazakhstan said today it would give the Chevron-led Tengizchevroil joint venture one month to decide how to deal with its vast stocks of sulphur or face having its licence suspended, a Kazakh official said.

"I think we will give them a month, and then we can initiate tougher actions," Environment Minister Nurlan Iskakov told Reuters.

"If we do not receive a plan of concrete actions to utilise sulphur as a by-product ... we reserve the right to seek the suspension of the venture's licence in court."
