Transmeridian lateral thinking pays off

By Upstream staff

Caspian basin-focused Transmeridian Exploration said it had drilled its first horizontal well, SA-5H in Kazakhstan.

The Houston-based company said it had drilled struck several productive intervals in a 1286-foot deviated section of the well, including a single section of 600 feet of potential pay.

Transmeridian said the well had been completed but flow testing had been delayed by winter storms in the area.

Transmeridian said it hoped to flow up to 8000 barrels per day from the well to the nearby KazTransOil pipeline by April.
