By Upstream staff

Norway's government has approved Statoil's plan for development and operation of the Alve gas and condensate field in the Norwegian Sea, energy officials said today.

The field will be developed with a subsea well linked to the Norne floating production, storage and offloading vessel, the ministry said.

"Investments in Alve are estimated at Nkr2.4 billion ($393.6 million)," the Petroleum & Energy Ministry said in a statement.

Alve's recoverable resources are estimated at 6.8 billion cubic metres of gas and 1.3 million cubic metres of condensate, it said.

Statoil operates Alve, in Production Licence 159B, with a 75% stake. Its partners are Denmark's Dong (15%) and Norsk Hydro (10%).
