Gulf discovery: Noble Energy finds oil with Big Bend probe

Houston independent Noble Energy has said it has struck around 150 feet of net oil pay with its Big Bend exploration probe in the deep-water US Gulf of Mexico.

Chief executive Charles Davidson said the well results “appear at least as good as our pre-drill mean resource expectations”, with “excellent reservoir properties and fluid characteristics”.

He added the discovery de-risked the nearby Troubadour prospect, with both of the prospects also lying close to the Galapagos project Noble Energy is partnered in with BP.

The New-York listed explorer said it drilled the Mississippi Canyon block 698 probe to a total depth of 15,989 feet in waters depths of 7200 feet.
