Electromagnetic Geoservices (EMGS) has seen its Altantic Guardian rehired for an extra six months after completing a basalt mapping project in the Norwegian Sea.

The Norway-based geophysical services provider said the vessel charter had been extended for a firm six months with two extra three-month options and a flexible starting date.

The Atlantic Guardian has just finished gathering controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) and magnetotelluric (MT) data in Norway’s Voring basin, in a multi-client contract that was extended from a similar survey in the west of Shetlands area in October.

The basalt mapping data is designed to be used with seismic data to determine the thickness of basalt layers and gain wider understanding of regional trends in the frontier basins, which hold significant potential for…
