Davy Jones prize still eludes McMoRan

Davy Jones: More setbacks with well test

McMoRan Exploration has suffered another setback in its drive to achieve a successful production test at its ultra-deep Davy Jones gas well off Louisiana, the company said Monday.

A well-stimulation operation designed to flush out residual barite from the well and stimulate flows "had limited success," McMoRan said in an update.

"McMoRan is initiating operations to use a propellant stimulation gun to create fractures that will extend beyond the suspected formation damage to attempt to unblock the perforations and if necessary McMoRan may inject additional solvent to make contact and dissolve the barite," the company said.

In addition to McMoRan, other stakeholders in the project include Energy XXI (15.8%), JX Nippon Oil Exploration (Gulf) Limited (12%) and Moncrief Offshore LLC (8.8%).
