Lundin gets Jorvik green light

Bit to spin: at Jorvik

Swedish explorer Lundin Petroleum has been given clearance by Norway’s safety authority to drill an exploration well at its Jorvik prospect in the southern North Sea.

The 16/1-17 probe is set to be drilled by 1983-built semi-submersible Transocean Winner in a water depth of 109 metres in Lundin-operated production licence 338 at the end of this month, at the earliest.

The planned duration is 49 days but this could be extended to 94 days if a sidetrack is drilled and production testing carried out.

The well is located east of the Lundin-operated Edvard Grieg field that is under development and due to be brought on stream in 2015.

Lundin holds a 50% stake as operator of the licence, with partners Wintershall (30%) and RWE Dea (20%).
