Sudden exit of unpopular leader and entire Cabinet sets stage for energy policy revamp amid Russian gas price stalemate

Ukraine is looks set for an energy policy overhaul after Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his entire Cabinet stepped down on Monday, following his government’s failure to secure a discount on critical Russian gas supplies.

Azarov, aged 64, said at a government meeting that he had tendered his resignation after parliamentary elections, although his spokesman said he could return to the post, Dow Jones reported. The other 17 members of the Cabinet also resigned.

His departure after two years in the post comes at a critical time as the Kiev administration is set to start key talks to secure more financial aid…
