Santos has plugged and abandoned the Hurricane-3 gas appraisal well off Western Australia as a dry well.

Hurricane-3 spudded on 10 November using the jack-up Ensco 104 and, if successful, could have been tied in to existing infrastructure for the domestic gas market.

The well was plugged and abandoned after failing to intersect good quality, gas-saturated reservoir within the target Eliassen formation, said co-venturer Beach Petroleum.

Partners in Block WA-208-P are operator Santos (37.31%), Apache (34.03%), Eni (18.66%) and Beach (10%).
