Lundin wraps up Johan Sverdrup appraisal

Drilling rig: Lundin is using the semi-submersible Transocean Winner to drill the appraisal well and sidetrack

Swedish operator Lundin Petroleum has wrapped up drilling at an appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup discovery on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The 16/2-16 appraisal well was drilled on the eastern flank of the discovery in PL501 to establish the depth to the top reservoir, the quality of the reservoir, the oil water contact depth and the aquifer quality.

Lundin said the top of the reservoir was intersected at 1924 metres, as expected, and the oil water contact was encountered at 1925 metres, which was the same as in the 16/2-13A sidetrack and about three metres deeper than other wells in PL501.
