OMV signs up Kan Tan IV for NZ well

Under charter: OMV has contracted the Kan Tan IV to drill the Matuku wildcat next year

Austria’s OMV has contracted the Frigstad Offshore managed semi-submersible drilling rig Kan Tan IV for its drilling campaign off New Zealand next year.

Frigstad, which manages the rig on behalf of China’s Sinopec, said the rig would be used in OMV’s initial three-month campaign in PEP 51906, in the Taranaki basin.

Drilling will be centred around the Matuku prospect and is expected to begin in the third quarter of next year.

Frigstad did not provide day rates for the rig but said the agreement allowed for the possibility of additional drilling.
