Maersk spuds at Albert

Drilling: the Transocean Barents gets to work on the Albert prospect for Maersk

Maersk Oil has spun the bit on a wildcat well in the Norwegian Sea, a day after getting the regulatory green light.

The semi-submersible Transocean Barents has begun drilling on the Albert prospect in production licence 513, 50:50 joint venture partner Dana Petroleum said.

The 6506/6-2 well, in the Haltenbanken area, is chasing gas and condensate reserves in the Cretaceous Lysing formation.

Albert will be drilled to a depth of 3490 metres, with an estimated well duration of 53 days, and a possible discovery could be tied back to nearby installations such as the Victoria gas field to the south.
