Rosneft bags 'Arctic block haul'

Russian state oil company Rosneft has reportedly run away with a bumper package of Arctic licence awards, with counterpart Gazprom also in the running for new blocks in the frontier region.

Mineral resources agency Rosnedra has now approved the award to Rosneft of 12 additional offshore licences in different parts of Russia’s Arctic shelf, including the Pechora Sea, Kara Sea, Chukchi Sea and Laptev Sea, the Barents Observer reported, citing Russian-language RBC Daily.

The tracts, apparently handed out without an auction taking place, add to Rosneft’s existing haul of 29 offshore blocks in the Russian Arctic, which now account for a reported 90% of its prospective resources.
