Atwood wins Thai Gulf extension

Houston-based Atwood Oceanics has been awarded a 12-month contract extension for its jack-up rig Atwood Mako.

The offshore drilling contractor had signed an initial 12-month drilling services deal with London-listed Salamander Energy in September for operations offshore Thailand.

The company announced on Thursday that the year extension would begin on 9 September next year and run through to September 2014.

Use of the jack-up is priced at a day rate of $155,000, Atwood said.

The Atwood Mako is currently drilling a second development well at Salamander’s Bualuang oilfield in the Gulf of Thailand.
