Four more taken off Nigeria

The security situation off Nigeria has continued to worsen after four crew members were kidnapped from an Italian platform supply vessel on Sunday.

The seafarers were snatched by armed pirates from the offshore vessel about 40 miles from the coast of Bayelsa state on Sunday evening, according to a report from the International Maritime Bureau’s Piracy Reporting Centre.

Although the report did not identify the vessel, the Nigerian Navy named it as the Italian-owned PSV Asso Ventuno.

The four crew members who were taken are said to comprise at least three Italians. Other crew members were left unharmed on the vessel which was abandoned by the pirates and is understood to be at port.
