Delicate: Hugo Chavez's health still in the balance in Cuba

Hugo Chavez remains in a “complex and delicate” state in a Cuban hospital, but his Venezuelan deputy has scotched rumours of failing health.

The long-term leader of the Opec founding member nation has suffered complications arising from his fourth round of treatment for cancer in Cuba.

In a pre-recorded interview from Havana for Venezuelan television network Telesur, Vice President Nicolas Maduro said: "He's totally conscious of the complexity of his post-operative state and he expressly asked us … to keep the nation informed always, always with the truth, as hard as it may be in certain circumstances.”

Maduro continued: "We have faith in God and in the doctors that Hugo Chavez will continue to make progress and sooner or later will emerge from this complex…
