Hitting the mark: Ocean Vanguard

Statoil has confirmed drilling success with its latest appraisal on the Johan Sverdrup discovery off Norway, proving oil shows in the southern part of the giant find to further boost resource potential.

The 16/2-15 probe, drilled in the Kvitsoy basin in Statoil-operated production licence 265, struck a 30-metre gross oil column in Upper to Middle Jurassic reservoir sandstone, of which about 20 metres was of “very good quality”, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The oil-water contact was found at the same depth as in neighbouring wells and pressure data indicated communication with the best part of the Sverdrup reservoir, the NPD stated.

Licence partner Det norske said the well “confirms good reservoir properties” in the southern area.
