Indonesia demands change at ExxonMobil

Calling for change: the Indonesian government has requested the replacement of Richard J Owen as ExxonMobil Indonesia president

Indonesia’s government has called for ExxonMobil to replace its Indonesian boss after the US oil giant failed to sell its northern Sumatra assets.

According to local media, Indonesian energy and mineral resources deputy minister Rudi Rubiandini publicly criticised ExxonMobil Indonesia president Richard J Owen after reports that the company had cancelled a sales deal for assets including the Arun field and the North Sumatra offshore field.

“His performance was not in the best interest of the nation, so he should be replaced,” the Jakarta Globe quoted the government official on Friday.

Owen took over from Terry McPhail as president in January last year.
