Petronas to spend $60bn in Malaysia

Petronas: Malaysia's state-owned oil company is expected to boost offshore activity and award more contracts in this year's second quarter

Malaysian state-owned oil company Petronas is planning to spend MYR186 billion ($61 billion) on the country’s oil and gas sector in the next five years, with more offshore activities and contracts expected to be awarded in the second quarter of this year.

According to Malaysia’s RHB Research Institute, this capital expenditure was expected to curb the decline in oil and gas production and strengthen the industry.

Exploration and production activities would continue and be viable, based on the current oil prices, RHB was quoted as stating by local newspaper The Star.

The newspaper said Petronas’ strategy included enhancing oil recovery at existing oilfields, developing marginal oilfields and adding to its resource base.
