Kulluk continues tow to Alaskan harbour

The stranded Kulluk drilling rig is continuing to be towed to harbour at Kiluida Bay after earlier being refloated, the US Coast Guard (USCG) has said.

The USCG said that as of 1420GMT the Kulluk lay around eight miles offshore and was under tow by the Aiviq, which was travelling north at a rate of 4.1 knots.

The barge rig is being taken around 30 miles from Sitkalidak Island - where it has lay stranded for a week - to harbour at Kiluida Bay for inspection.

The USCG said that an overflight of the operation would be made at first light local time, weather permitting.
