Double Dutch treat for Contango

By Upstream staff

Contango Oil & Gas said a second discovery at its Dutch prospect on Eugene Island Block 10 in the Gulf of Mexico had boosted estimates of total proved reserves on the field to 158 billion cubic feet of natural gas equivalent.

Of this, 45.8 bcfe was net to Contango, it said.

The company said the Dutch-2 well, drilled about a mile from the original Dutch-1 discovery well, had intersected the same reservoir below a depth of 15,000 feet.

Contango said completion and testing of the new well was expected to take three weeks, with production expected in July or August this year. It said drilling of the Dutch-3 well was expected to start in May about 2200 feet south-east of the Dutch-1 spud.

Both wells are operated by Contango Operators. Contango owns a 40% working interest in the well through Contango Operators and its Republic Exploration unit.

The company said it may drill up to nine wells to develop the field. The field adjoins Contango's Mary Rose prospect to the north.
