Shape of things to come: an artist's impression of SeaMetric's TML system in action
Asia yards join SeaMetric's TML push
Norway's SeaMetric International has handed a letter of intent to Essca, working in consortium with China Petroleum First Construction Corporation (CPFCC) and the JingJiang shipyard near Shanghai for the construction, assembly and testing of the world's first 20,000 tonne Twin Marine Lifter (TML) system.
CPFCC will be responsible for the overall project management, the construction of the TML lift arm system and for assembly and testing of the TML.
The job building the two DP class 3 heavy transport vessels, which will form the basis of the TML lifting system, will be subcontracted to the JingJiang shipyard.
SeaMetric has already issued contracts for the procurement of major equipment on the critical path, 12 engines, eight thrusters and the diesel electric systems. These will be delivered from October 2008 to January 2009, and will be installed by the consortium. Delivery of the completed and tested TML system is scheduled for around the third quarter of 2009.
The DP class 3 heavy transport vessels will have accommodation for 41, a helideck, and will be capable of submersion to -20 metres, making them capable of transporting jack-up rigs and most semi-submersibles currently operating. The vessels will also be able to carry topsides modules and other major loads.
The vessels will be financed with a combination of existing equity and a bond loan. Fearnley Fonds have been retained for assistance with placement of the bond.
