Lotos ditches Ula duster

Duster: Lotos' 7/8-6S well off Norway has come up dry

A wildcat well operated by Poland’s Lotos has come up dry north-west of the Ula field off Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reported on Tuesday that well 7/8-6S in production licence 498 has been plugged and abandoned after encountering 25-metre thick reservoir rocks in the Tor formation that were of poorer quality than expected.

The well, located 35 kilometres north-west of the Ula field in the southern part of the North Sea, was drilled to a vertical depth of 3065 metres below the sea level.

Drilling was terminated in the Tor formation (the drilling target) in Late Cretaceous reservoir rocks at a water depth of 82 metres.
