Dana wins Kurdistan favour

By Upstream staff

United Arab Emirates-based Dana Gas said it had signed a strategic alliance with the Kurdish regional government of northern Iraq to develop natural gas resources in the semi-autonomous area.

Dana said it would undertake a review of the region's gas resources with a view to their development under an agreement signed with Nechirvan Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kuristan Regional Government.

The company said the work would be done in partnership with its affiliate, Crescent Petroleum.

The agreement also covered the establishment of a "Kurdistan Gas City" development, designed to encourage gas-related industries to invest in the region.

Dana said it had also won a service contract to process and transport natural gas from the Khor Mor gas field in Kurdistan to fuel power plants being built near the cities of Erbil and Suleymania. Dana said it would also appraise the potential of developing the Chemchemal gas field for the same purpose.
