Statoil spud at Visund Nord

Resource push: Visund Nord is a satellite of the main Visund field

Statoil is reported to have spudded an exploration well at Visund Nord aimed at proving additional resources at the upcoming fast-track field project off Norway.

The state-owned explorer is deploying semi-submersible COSL Pioneer to drill the 34/8-15 S probe in its operated production licence 120, Petro Media reported.

The rig, owned by COSL Drilling Europe, has been moved to the North Sea after drilling had to be halted by Statoil on the frontier Brugdan-2 well off the Faroe Islands due to adverse weather conditions.

Visund Nord, with recoverable reserves estimated at 29 million barrels of oil equivalent, is to be brought on stream  in September after Statoil kicked off production at the nearby Visund South scheme late last year.
