Expansion: Nyhamna gas plant

Kvaerner has landed extra work worth Nkr5 billion ($893 million) to upgrade Shell’s Nyhamna gas processing plant on Norway’s west coast that will almost double the value of its existing contract with the Anglo-Dutch supermajor.

The latest award comes under Kvaerner’s framework agreement for engineering, procurement, construction and management for modifications and other work at Shell’s Ormen Lange field and Nyhamna plant signed last year.

The pact is now worth Nkr11 billion to the Norwegian engineering contractor following completion of front-end engineering and design work for the Nyhamna Expansion project.

The capacity of the plant near Molde is being expanded to handle fresh output from new fields in the Norwegian Sea including Aasta Hansteen, for which Statoil has now submitted a development plan entailing construction of a new gas pipeline to Nyhamna.
