NPD confirms Asha Noor oil strike

Tapping juices: Wintershall in North Sea

German explorer Wintershall has made a small oil discovery at the Asha Noor prospect in the vicinity of the Ivar Aasen field in the central North Sea off Norway.

The wildcat 16/1-16 and accompanying appraisal 16/1-16A struck a total of between 19 million and 38 million barrels of recoverable oil resources after being drilled by semi-submersible Bredford Dolphin in a water depth of 113 metres in production licence 457, the  Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) confirmed on Friday.

However, the newly found resources will not be wrapped into the development plan for Ivar Aasen, which is in separate licences, already submitted to the authorities by operator Det norske, the NPD added.
