Max Petroleum takes aim at Tolegen West

Pre-Caspian probe: Max Petroleum sinks Tolegen West well

London-listed Max Petroleum has spudded a fresh exploration probe on its pre-Caspian basin block in western Kazakhstan.

Zhanros Drilling’s ZJ-20 will drill TOLW-1 on the Tolegen West prospect in Block E to a total vertical depth of around 1600 metres.

The probe is targeting unrisked mean resources of 8 million barrels of oil in Triassic reservoirs in a four-way anticline.

The Kazakh-focused explorer has seen mixed success from a series of exploration probes on Block E in recent months.

Eskene North and Baichonas West both yielded pay, while Dossor North and Besbolek North East both proved unsuccessful.
