Kurdistan contracts: WesternZagros Resources secures rig pair

Canada’s WesternZagros Resources has hired a pair of rigs on two-year contracts ahead of two exploration drills on its Garmian block in Iraqi Kurdistan later this year.

The Toronto-listed outfit said it awarded a contract to an unnamed North American contractor for the two rigs to drill the Hasira-1 well, the Baram-1 well and subsequent wells on the block.

The drilling services contract comes with options for a third rig and for a two-year extension.

Drilling design and site construction are underway for both the Hasira-1 and Baram-1 wells ahead of the spud dates in June and August.

WesternZagros Resources holds a 40% stake in the block after farming out to Gazprom Neft last year, with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) holding a 20% carry.
