Licence haul: for minnows off Norway

Norway has handed out 51 licence awards to 40 bidders under the country’s latest round for acreage in mature areas, with minnows among the big winners.

Norwegian junior Spring Energy, recently acquired by UK-based Tullow Oil, bagged 13 awards - including four operatorships – to leave it only one shy of state-owned giant Statoil’s leading haul of 14 licences under the 2012 Awards in Pre-defined Areas (APA) round.

Not far behind was UK independent Faroe Petroleum, which boosted its ambition to expand off Norway with eight licences, of which three are operatorships.

Other small-fry winners included Agora Oil & Gas, which has been acquired by the UK’s Cairn Energy, with two licence shares, Explora Petroleum…
