Norwegian shelf shut-ins cut December output

Ending on a low: Norway's total oil and gas production for the year was 5% below prognosis

Shut-in fields on the Norwegian shelf have resulted in lower-than-expected oil production for the month of December, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

NPD said planned maintenance and technical problems on the Morvin, Njord, Tordis, Visund Sor and Aasgard offshore fields were the main culprits for the shelf’s December oil output being 13% below prognosis.

In addition, the Valhall and Hod fields were closed for the entire month in order to prepare for the start-up of production at a new platform.

The Yme and Skarv fields also went against expectations by not contributing to the monthly production.
