BP 'in lockdown' in Algeria

A gas facility jointly operated by BP in Algeria is reportedly in lockdown following a terrorist attack in the area with one report claiming some workers have been abducted in the area.

Early reports allege that Islamist terrorists are responsible for the early-morning raid on the In Amenas field with Reuters reporting that six workers have been abducted from the field.

Five Japanese workers and a French national were snatched from the facility in the south-eastern part of Algeria, the news wire reported, citing unidentified local and diplomatic sources.

A source with knowledge of operations on the field told Upstream that there had been an attack on the field on Wednesday morning and that at least part of BP's gas facility has gone into lockdown.
