Swedish explorer gains drilling permit for North Sea wildcat in vicinity of Edvard Grieg field

Swedish explorer Lundin Petroleum has been given the nod by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a wildcat at its Jorvik prospect in the central North Sea.

The company intends to deploy semi-submersible rig Transocean Winner to drill the 16/1-17 well in production licence 338, just to the east of the Lundin-operated Edvard Grieg field, in a water depth of 110 metres.

The probe – the eighth to be drilled in the licence – is reported to be targeting additional volumes in the vicinity of Grieg, with drilling expected to take 50 days including a possible sidetrack and well test.
