Stepping down: Ken Salazar reported to be resigning as Interior Secretary

US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar reportedly plans to step down from his position, which includes overseeing the development of US offshore and onshore energy production.

Salazar led the response to the massive oil spill in 2010 at BP's Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, leading to an overhaul of the country's top offshore regulatory body.

He is the second member of President Barack Obama's cabinet to step down from a high-ranking energy post as the administration begins its second term in office following a November re-election.

Lisa Jackson, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, said at the end of 2012 that she would be leaving her post.
