Deep Sea Supply in $852m Brazil venture

Deep Sea Supply and Brazil’s BTG Pactual Oil & Gas have joined forces on the ownership and operation of platform supply vessels (PSVs) and anchor-handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessels in Brazil.

The move comes after DESS said in February it was "looking at strategic alternatives" to boost its Brazilian presence after a year in which it scooped major deals from both BP and Petrobras.

The new 50/50 venture will initially own and operate a fleet of nine AHTS vessels and six PSVs being provided by DESS, a Cyprus-registered offshore contractor established and controlled by Norwegian shipping tycoon John Fredriksen.

BTG, a Latin American investment bank, will acquire a 50% stake in certain local DESS subsidiaries to create the venture.
