WorleyParsons lands Iraq deal

Iraq win: WorleyParsons signed a deal to provide project management services for Shell-Mitsubishi joint venture, Basrah Gas Company

Australian service provider WorleyParsons has landed a project management support and services contract for a Shell-Mitsubishi joint venture in Iraq.

Shell Gas Iraq BV awarded the three-year contract, which will involve WorleyParsons providing project management, technical and construction supervision personnel to support the Basrah Gas Company (BGC) in its rehabilitation inspection, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities.

BGC is a 25-year joint venture between state-run South Gas Company (which holds a 51% stake), Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell (44%) and Japan’s Mitsubishi (5%).

The company was formed following a deal with the Iraqi government in November 2011 to develop the world’s largest flares reduction company.

It is intended to make better use of Iraq’s gas resources…
