Lundin green light for Luno 2

Lundin Petroleum has been given approval by Norway’s safety authority to drill an exploration well at its Luno 2 prospect.

The Swedish explorer intends to use Fred Olsen Energy-owned semi-submersible Bredford Dolphin to drill the probe in a water depth of around 100 metres in mid-North Sea production licence 359 off Norway.

Drilling is expected to start next month, with an estimated duration of 46 days.

Lundin is targeting further resource potential with the well at the prospective Utsira High structure in the mature Norwegian province that has already yielded the giant Johan Sverdrup discovery.

The Luno 2 prospect, located just south of the Lundin-operated Edvard Grieg field, is estimated to have gross pre-drill volume potential of 139 million barrels of oil equivalent.
