Crane issues: at Oseberg

Maintenance failings have  been uncovered on crane and lifting equipment and operations at Statoil’s Oseberg field centre by the Norwegian safety watchdog.

A recent audit carried out by the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) found that there were technical issues with cranes on the Oseberg A, B and D platforms, according to the agency’s report.

Two of the cranes – on the A and B facilities – were due for replacement but no concrete plans had been made to carry this out.

The inspection, intended to verify the technical condition of equipment and check whether improvement measures had been implemented, also identified failings in the state-owned operator’s maintenance programme for lifting gear.
