Shell joins Kinder at Elba LNG

Shell is teaming up with Kinder Morgan to develop a natural gas liquefaction plant to export LNG from the US.

The industry giants are to modify the Elba Express pipeline and Elba Island LNG terminal from import to export facilities as the country looks to profit from its shale gas revolution.

Shell and Southern Liquefaction Company, an offshoot of Kinder Morgan-acquired outfit El Paso Pipeline Partners, are to form a company to develop the facility near Savannah, Georgia in two phases.

El Paso will own 51% of the venture with Shell owning the remainder, while the former will be operator. The Anglo-Dutch oil giant will subscribe to 100% of the liquefaction capacity.
