'Relief refusal': Unions aim to dispute profit-sharing proposal for 2012

Workers on oil platforms, refineries and oil terminals of Petrobras, Brazil's state-led oil company, began a 24-hour strike at midnight on Monday to protest the company's 2012 profit-sharing proposal, reports said.

The current strike will not have an impact on oil and fuels production, said Emanuel Cancella, general secretary of Sindipetro-RJ, a Petrobras union in Rio de Janeiro, according to Reuters.

The profit sharing proposal was 40% lower than the amount paid in 2011, and if it's not improved Petrobras unions are ready to call a larger strike aimed at disrupting output, he said.

Petrobras' 2012 proposal used the same criteria as its 2011 profit-sharing package, Petrobras said in an emailed statement to the news wire. The company added it was ready to negotiate…
