Arrival: Olympus hull arrives in Texas

The hull for Shell's next operated Gulf of Mexico tension-leg platform has arrived in Texas where it will be outfitted for installation in the Mississippi Canyon area later this decade.

The Olympus hull left Samsung Heavy Industries' shipyard in South Korea on 28 November and completed the 18,272-mile journey on Saturday.

The 32,500-tonne main body was transported by the Dockwise heavy-lift semi-submersible Blue Marlin. It is now at the Kiewit yard in Ingleside, Texas, where the TLP's topsides are under construction. A Nabors-built platform rig will also be installed at the Kiewit yard.

The lift and set of the topsides modules will begin in February and last several weeks, Shell said in a statement.
