Big oil players ‘near KRG deals’

'In talks': Ashti Hawrami speaking with major oil players over possible deals, report says

More “significant” oil industry players are locked in talks with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) about operating oil blocks in the autonomous region of northern Iraq, a report claims.

Winning candidates, to follow in the footsteps of supermajors such as ExxonMobil and Chevron, would be revealed within a matter of weeks, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

"We are negotiating with two to three other significant companies,” the news wire quoted KRG Oil Minister Ashti Hawrami as saying.

“They will hopefully be announced in a month or so."

Hawrami had said last week that the KRG had awarded Chevron a stake in the Qara Dagh Block. Chevron shied away, however, from confirming the award, spokesperson telling Upstream at the time that the company does not discuss specific business opportunities.
