Sydney-based Bridgeport Energy will soon launch a high impact oil development drilling programme at the Utopia oilfield in the Australian state of Queensland, with the spudding of the first well due next week, field partner Bounty Oil & Gas said.

Australia-listed Bounty said on Wednesday that drilling of the first development well, Utopia-12, will begin around 5 February. The well is located at the highest point on the currently producing oilfield, up dip from the most productive well, Utopia-2.

A second well, Utopia-14, is planned to follow the drilling of Utopia-12. This well will test a separate closure to the south-east of the main Utopia production area.

A Utopia-13 well is also planned to be drilled as part of the development programme but Bounty has elected to go non-consent on this well.
