Ukraine is expecting a “true picture of prospects” within two years’ time at the eastern Yuzivska shale play where it struck a $10 billion exploration deal with Shell.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Eduard Stavytsky told reporters in Kiev the Anglo-Dutch supermajor would spend $410 million over that time to explore the concession and assess its reserves, Reuters reported.

"The first results are due before 2015, and the confirmed reserves will paint a true picture of the (prospects) of commercial production at that field," he said.

Shell and Ukraine last week signed a landmark production sharing agreement for Yuzivska that could involve as much as $10 billion investment.
