Dockwise's new 275-metre-long heavy lift vessel Dockwise Vanguard has set sail on its first contract to transport a giant platform hull to the US Gulf of Mexico for Chevron.

Chief executive Andre Goedee said that the Dockwise Vanguard had been delivered on time and was starting its first contract on schedule with a key customer.

The Breda, Netherlands-based heavy lift specialist said the new vessel had conducted sea trials in the past few weeks after its naming ceremony in late November at Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in South Korea.

The bowless, 117,000 dead-weight tonne vessel is adaptable to accommodate a range of large rigs, production units and other vessels.
