Rig count: US gains 11

The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US climbed by 11 this week for a total of 1764, according to Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

Rigs drilling for oil were up 17 on 1332 while those drilling for gas were down six for 428.

Texas was the big gainer this week, adding seven rigs for 826. New Mexico was flat on 79.

Oklahoma added six rigs for 196. Kansas was flat on 29.

Louisiana lost three for 106. Mississippi was flat on 10.

Arkansas lost one for 16.

Colorado was flat on 55. Wyoming lost one for 47. Utah was flat on 28.
