Salamander makes Bontang find

Indonesia: the semi-submersible rig Ocean General flares gas from the South Kecapi-1 exploration well in the Bontang production sharing contract

UK-listed Salamander Energy has completed its South Kecapi-1 DIR/ST exploration well off East Kalimantan, Indonesia as an oil and gas discovery.

The semi-submersible Ocean General spudded the well in December in Salamander’s 100%-owned Bontang production sharing contract. It was the first well to be drilled in the company’s multi-well programme covering the North Kutei basin.

Salamander reported on Monday that the well, which reached a total depth of 2102 metres subsea, had discovered a combined 40 metres of net oil and gas pay in high quality stacked Pliocene channel sandstones.
