Upward trend: New evaluation raises Atrush block resources by 30%

The Taqa-led Atrush block in Iraqi Kurdistan has seen a 30% increase in mean estimated contingent resources after a fresh independent evaluation, a junior partner at the block has revealed.

McDaniel and Associates estimates 668.53 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in gross potential at the field, up from 512 million boe at the end of 2011.

Within this lies an estimated 647.85 million barrels of crude oil and 124.07 million cubic feet of natural gas, the auditors found.

The new study includes the results of the Atrush 2 well as well as recently acquired 3D seismic at the play, Canadian explorer ShaMaran Petroleum said.
