Awilco bags UK rig extension

At the ready: WilHunter

Awilco Drilling has secured an 18-month contract extension worth $212 million from US independent Hess for use of its semi-submersible rig WilHunter off the UK.

The initial firm period for the unit of 400 days has now been extended to 950 days, with options for up to an additional 275 days, under the letter of intent with the contract due to start in April.

The rig is being used by Hess over the next three years for its well abandonment programme in the UK central North Sea.
